October 26, 2009
On Wednesday October 28th, La Manga Club residents have organised a guided walk to Las Cenizas Gun Battery . This 3 hour walk is not too strenuous, but it is uphill and the paths underfoot can be rough and a little steep in places. The cost is 15 Euros (10 Euros for children) including a donation to cancer charities as part of the October Fiesta.
The walk takes you through beautiful woodland adjacent to the club, with lots of interesting wild flowers and herbs to enjoy. From the woods you will go out on to a wide stony track that was once a military road, which leads up to the Guns. The views from the top are simply breathtaking. Below you is a panoramic view of the coast line with craggy cliffs, wonderfully shaped mountain tops against the skyline, and numerous bays with their sandy beaches. Portman Bay is below you. The Guns, which have recently been restored, are of great interest and are an important part of contemporary Spanish history. We will take time to enjoy the views and explore the Guns before heading down along a different route.
Everyone from aged 6 years to 80+ is welcome. Good sound walking shoes should be worn and bring a walking stick if you have one. The walk starts and finishes at the West Course car park where we will meet in the morning at 10.00am.
