New York Red Bulls: Cricket Anyone?

The New York Red Bulls wrapped up their La Manga Club pre-season camp last Thursday, 4th February.  But before they left, some of their star players tried their hands at cricket after their training session on a sunny Sunday morning. In this video, Andy Boyens and Danleigh Borman show off their cricketing skills.

New York Red Bulls vs. Lech Poznan 1:0

Forward Juan Pablo Angel’s first half goal and a stout defensive effort propelled the New York Red Bulls to their first win of the year with a 1-0 victory over Poland’s Lech Poznan at the La Manga Resort in La Manga, Spain.

New York Red Bulls – On the road in La Manga Club

The New York Red Bulls have begun their full pre-season training sessions in La Manga Club, Spain under the direction of new head coach Hans Backe. Last Friday, 22nd January was the first full training day and the club had two sessions (morning and afternoon)  with passing and tactical drills as the club prepares for its first pre-season match today Monday, January 25 against CSKA Moscow.

Two US soccer teams at La Manga Club: New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders

This pre-season there will be two Major League Soccer teams using the great facilities of La Manga Club for their training:

> New York Red Bulls: 20 January – 04 February and Seattle Sounders: 17 – 27 February

Starting tomorrow, the New York Red Bulls will have two busy weeks ahead:

RED BULLS TRAVEL TO SPAIN WEDNESDAY: The Red Bulls will take their first pre-season trip of 2010 when they head to La Manga Club, Spain for two weeks from Wednesday, Jan. 20 to Feb. 4. Under new head coach Hans Backe, the Red Bulls will face off against Russia’s CSKA Moscow on Jan. 24, Poland’s Lech Poznan on Jan. 27, and Norway’s Stromsgodset IF on Feb 1.

CSKA is competing in this year’s UEFA Champions League, qualifying for the first knockout round, where they will face Spain’s Sevilla in a two-leg, home-and-home series starting on Feb. 24. Lech Poznan qualified for the UEFA Europa League but it was knocked out by Belgium’s Club Brugge in qualifying rounds on penalty kicks after the teams were tied 1-1 on aggregate last August.
