Between December 7th and the end of March, more than 70 top soccer teams from across Europe, Asia and the US will be visiting La Manga Club for winter training in the mild weather. During this period, there will also be a number of friendly matches and tournaments, including the now traditional La Manga Club Cup. The first edition of the La Manga Cup will take place at the end of January and the second a month later, at the end of February.
Following in the footsteps of Liverpool FC Reserves came another English team, Fulham Youth, who visited the resort between December 27th and 30th.
Going into 2010, the first team to visit will be VfB Stuttgart, who will be staying at Hotel La Manga Club PrĂncipe Felipe between January 3rd and 9th to prepare for the second half of  the Bundesliga and for their important Champions League clash with FC Barcelona. Next come Stuttgart’s fellow countrymen, Germany U-16 and U-17 from January 6th to 13th, coinciding with Belgian team RSC Anderlecht, next rivals for Atletic de Bilbao in the Europa League, and Cambridge University from the UK. Dutch team FC Twente, current leaders of the Dutch league, will be visiting between January 9th and 13th, coinciding with three women’s football teams from England, China and Norway who will be competing in a friendly tournament here.
From January 20th, the first teams taking part in the First Edition of the La Manga Cup will be arriving. Participants in the first edition include Norway’s Odd Grenland, Tromso IL, Vaalerenga IF and Stromsgodset, Lech Poznan from Poland and the New York Red Bulls from the US.
January 29th sees the arrival of Russian team Rubin Kazan, the only team to have beaten FCÂ Barcelona so far in the 2009/10 Champions League, for a 12 day visit, as well as compatriots, FC Zenit Saint Petersburg, who will be visiting La Manga Club for the first time.
February is set to be busier still, with numerous European teams visiting and others from the US. Two important international tournaments will be taking place in February – the International U-17 Tournament and International U-19 Tournament, bringing together various national youth sides full of the stars of tomorrow’s game.
