Here’s some more information on John Hides:

“Few performers exhibit the incredible versatility and natural charisma that is the hallmark of British performer John Hides. While still in school, John organized his own band. Rising quickly to prominence, the group performed on national television and in a twelve-week run on London’s famed West End. Such was the acclaim of John’s ensemble that it was chosen to give a command performance for Diana, Princess of Wales.

Crossing the Atlantic, John Hides signed to record his debut album in Los Angeles. The success of this venture led to an extended tour with the famed Abba tribute production, Bjorn Again, which performed worldwide to audiences numbering as large as 100,000. John’s association with this endeavour culminated with a headlining performance at Manchester, England’s Millennium Eve celebration, before a crowd of 65,000,

Success has given John the opportunity to tour the world for the past several seasons, performing his one-man show before sold-out halls. His amazing virtuosity on piano, guitar, and harmonica serves to reinforce his powerful voice, engaging his audiences and bringing them to their feet. Whether it be great love songs, rollicking rock ‘n roll, or the great swing standards, nobody does it better than the incomparable John Hides.”

Listen to John performing: “Hallelujah I love her so” and “My Life” >>

The Piano Lounge Bar is open nightly from 7 pm with live music from 11 pm.

Here’s an interesting event we came across on the Simply Networking web site.

Each year a choral event takes place in the atmospheric setting of the Cabo de Palos lighthouse, timed to be when the moon is full, or nearly full, Habaneras a la luz de la luna.

Habaneras is a word which describes choral music, so this evening is about beautiful voices, performing a complete cross section of choral works, everything from the odd haunting piece of beautiful religious choral music, to Broadway hits and popular contemporary pop.

The standard of choral music in this region is astonishingly high, virtually every town having at least one choir, sometimes several, usually in conjunction with schools of music, churches , housewives associations,or religious associations and there are competitions all over the region throughout the year, all of which are free to attend.

On this occasion, the choir is the Coral Polifonica Carthagonova, and they’re accompanied by the Grupo Folklórico Ciudad de Cartagena de la Palma, the folklore group from La Palma, who are superb musicians, and take part in a diverse range of both dance and musical performance.

The concert takes place at 11pm in the shadow of the lighthouse at Cabo de Palos.

The Minister of Culture for the Region of Murcia, Pedro Alberto Cruz, has announced that the region will be running to host the Solheim Cup in five years’ time.

“The Region aspires to be a venue for top level international women’s golf. Although we already have some of Spain’s finest courses, we will be putting in all the necessary resources to achieve this challenge”, stated Cruz during the opening ceremony of the European Ladies Team Championship, which was held at La Manga Club from July 6th to 10th this year.

Considered to be the female equivalent of the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup sees teams from Europe and the US competing for the Cup and attracts dozens of top level players. As an event, it attracts around 130,000 people with extensive TV coverage and highly beneficial tourist and economic impact.

La Manga Club resort is well positioned as a potential venue for the tournament, with three golf courses, a 5-star hotel, 2000 square metre spa, 28 tennis courts, 8 football pitches and 2 cricket pitches, more than fulfilling the requirements to host the 2015 Solheim Cup. It is, without a doubt, one of Spain’s most famous sports resorts and a three-times winner of the World Travel Award for Europe’s Leading Golf Resort. It has previouslyplayed host to the Spanish Open on five occasions and several PGA Spanish Championships, amongst others.

In the words of Julio Delgado, General Manager of La Manga Club, “We want to play our part in helping the Region to achieve its objective, and the best way for us to do so is to make all our facilities – sports and leisure – available to sportspeople and to the Solheim Cup, as well as all our human and material resources.

FAVOURITE DESTINATION?

La Manga Club in Spain. My wife and I have taken the children there for years. We seem to have grown up with other regulars and have created our own little community.

DESCRIBE IT

Gorgeous. It does far more than just offer sport. Just behind the resort, you’ve got towering cliffs dropping straight into the sea. And it’s near some of the best beaches in Europe.

BEST THINGS TO DO THERE?

Often, we pull off the main road and drive down dusty tracks to long sandy coves and clear water. We love the uncrowded beaches. I also enjoy visiting Murcia. I’m still discovering things about this region, even after more than a decade.

Here’s a brief extract from an amusing article all about tennis at La Manga Club published by Melanie Mulhern in a recent issue of the Daily Mail:
‘Don’t worry, the first thousand balls are the worst,’ the voice boomed across the tennis court.
I began to wonder what I had got myself into.
