On Monday afternoon, the courses at La Manga Club welcomed the 17 teams taking part in the twenty-eighth edition of the European Ladies Team Championship. The Minister of Culture and Tourism for the Region of Murcia, Pedro Alberto Cruz Sánchez, offered his support for the tournament, attending the brilliant opening ceremony which saw a parade of all 102 golfers taking part in the tournament.
The Spanish team, headed up by captain Macarena Campomanes, paraded in last position as required by protocol. Coming to win the title for Spain, as happened previously in 1995, 2003, 2005 and 2007, are Carlota Ciganda from Navarra, Elia Folch and Mireia Prat from Catalonia, Marta Silva from Galicia, Ane Urchegui from San Sebastián and Adriana Zwanck from Madrid.

Also attending the ceremony, alongside Pedro Alberto Cruz Sánchez, were the president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Gonzaga Escauriaza, the president of the Royal Murcian Golf Federation, José Jover, and the Managing Director of La Manga Club, Julio Delgado.
La Manga Club, which has played host to a number of major professional and amateur tournaments over its brilliant history, is home this year to a tournament in which Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales will also be seeking victory.
AROUND THE GREEN
A paso doble welcomes the foreign teams. A classic paso doble accompanied the host team during what was the highlight of the afternoon.
The tournament in figures: 17 teams, 102 golfers, 28 editions, 5 days of golf and one trophy to come.
The course at La Manga Club, spectacular. The work of La Manga Club’s Head Greenkeeper, Cosme Bergareche, and his team is peerless. Only days after the REALE Spanish Junior Championship, the South Course is in unbeatable condition.
Tuesday July 6th, first day’s play. The format for both the first and second day will be Stroke Play. Only the top eight teams will make the cut for a chance at the title.
