La Manga Club, Murcia, Spain. 6 September 2012.- Following numerous international tennis tournaments over the years, this year La Manga Club will be playing host to the European Senior Club Championship, a tennis tournament in which the top seniors tennis players (over 35 years of age) from across Europe take part.
Since its inception in 1983, the European Senior Club Championship has become an immensely popular event, played in late summer and offering a rare opportunity for the continent’s best players to compete in an international team competition. The event is open to National Champion Clubs and runner-ups of the previous year, all of whom are entitled to take part in the Championships.
The 2012 European Senior Club Championships will be taking place between 25th September and 6th October. From 25th to 29th September it will be the turn of the Seniors, with men’s categories from 35+ to 55+ and women’s from 35+ to 50+. The Super Seniors championship will be played from 2nd to 6th October with men’s categories 60+ to 70+ and women’s from 60+ to 65+.
In 2012, and for the first time, all 11 age categories will compete at one venue; the award-winning La Manga Club resort in Spain, where players from some 80 clubs will convene. Each country may be represented by a maximum of two clubs, with club teams comprising a minimum of 4 and maximum of 7 playsrs in the case of men and a minimum of 2 and maximum of 5 in the case of women.
Located at the heart of La Manga Club, the Tennis Centre is one of Europe’s finest outdoor facilities, whose 28 courts have played host to numerous top level national and international tennis tournaments, training camps and events. It is also the first sports and leisure resort to be an official partner of Tennis Europe, the European Tennis Federation.
