Football: Maccabi beat Real Murcia in La Manga Club

Last Thursday, Maccabi Tel Aviv, the most successful team in Israeli football history, beat Real Murcia by 1-0 in a pre-season friendly match at La Manga Club Football Centre.

Maccabi’s players spent 11 days pre-season training at Spain’s La Manga Club resort this month, being put through their paces by coach Oscar Garcia and sports director, former Manchester United and Holland midfielder Jordi Cruyff.

The historic club, winners of their national championship 18 times, is the first team from Israel to visit La Manga Club and they fine-tuned their preparations for the new campaign by playing three friendlies against Spanish opposition including local side Real Murcia.

Maccabi is not the only side to choose La Manga Club as a base for pre-season training this summer with Spanish Primera League teams Granada and Levante also using the resort this month. It is the fourth year in a row that Granada has stayed at the venue while Levante spent six days at the resort training in July as they continue their build-up to playing in the Europa League for the first time ever at the end of next month.

The visit of the three teams maintains a busy summer on the football front for La Manga Club – who also hosted the Real Madrid Foundation Junior Camps earlier this month.
