Football season kicks off at La Manga Club with top European teams

Winter football season is about to kick off at La Manga Club, as always, will see some of Europe’s top teams at the resort in Spain. Clubs and national teams from Germany, Belgium, Holland, Britain, Norway, Russia and Sweden are amongst those choosing La Manga Club as the ideal venue for their winter training camps.

First to arrive is Standard de Liege, runners-up in the Belgian League Championship, who will be preparing for the second half of the Jupiler League from 3rd to 10th January.

On 5th January, current Bundesliga champions Borussia Dotmund return to La Manga Club for the first time in 17 years, coinciding with the German Under 16 and Under 17 teams, who will be here with famous former BVB captain, Matthias Sammer, who is now Sports Director of the German Football Federation.

Cambridge University FC arrive on 9th January alongside the England, Norway and Sweden Women’s teams, who will be playing a friendly tournament in preparation for the qualifying stages of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2013.

Russian cup winners, CSKA Moscow, who will be playing against Real Madrid in the forthcoming Champions League round of 16, is another of the top teams to have confirmed their training camp at La Manga Club, from 11th to 14th January.

Tournament season

From 25th January, with the arrival of Norway’s Odd Grenland, the resort will be playing host to the teams taking part in the Copa del Sol, an important winter tournament being held for the second time at La Manga Club, with some matches also being played at the Cartagonova stadium in the nearby city of Cartagena.

The Copa del Sol is a major attraction for clubs and scouts from across Europe. Participants in this edition will include Ukrainian champions Shakthar Donetsk, Kalmar from Sweden, FC Copenhagen from Denmark and Aalesund and Tromso, from Norway.

From 7th to 14th February, La Manga Club will be hosting international Under 17 and Under 19 tournaments with teams from Norway, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic and Slovakia in a competition in which we will be able to see the future stars of European football in action.

The same week, there will also be an international women’s friendly tournament between the Norway, Germany, US and Switzerland Women’s Under 20 teams. Next up, from the 14th to 24th February, is the 13th edition of the La Manga Cup, which will bring together first division teams from Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
